The interview
Why should someone consider Universal Factory Direct for a remodel?
If you're considering a new kitchen or a remodel in general, you should consider Universal Factory Direct, mainly because their customer service is unparalleled. They are very easy to get ahold of, and they are very good at what they do. They're experts in this area. They have a great product catalog, great prices, and you want to work with somebody who knows what they're doing.
What led you to choose them over big-box stores?
What led me to choose Universal Factory Direct over other big-box stores was simply the customer service and obviously wanting to support local. Joe and the team were highly recommended to me from my father who had worked with them on projects in the past, and other builders as well. When I reached out, they were super responsive and I felt very confident with the support they had.
What was the scope of your renovation project?
We took a single-family home and we turned it into a three-family. So that included three kitchens and six and a half bathrooms. Joe and the team worked with us to help design the layouts for each of the kitchens, choosing the finishes in terms of wood materials, and how we want it to look and feel from an end-user perspective, alongside vanities and extra storage space.
What was the design and ordering process like?
The overall experience was pretty smooth. We talked over the phone several times; Joe sent me some plans and some renderings over email, and then I was actually able to go in person and look at things live on a bigger screen, ask questions, and move things around. It was helpful to see the real cabinets, materials, and colors in person to make the best choices.
What surprised you most about working with them?
What surprised me most was likely their catalog. I didn't expect for such a small local family-run business to be able to have access to such great product from around the country and around the world, honestly. Being able to work with somebody who could help me find the right product, from a small footprint to the very largest, was really important for me.
How did you evaluate the quality versus the cost?
Comparing quality versus cost, obviously as a builder, I have to do that all the time to make sure I'm buying the right thing at the right price. Sometimes you get more what you pay for. Here, I didn't feel like I was making much of a compromise. It was great value, good product. I was only gonna buy something that I knew would hold up over the long period.
Frequently asked
