The interview
What was your situation before working with Darren Frank?
Before I was working with Darren, I was just kinda coasting. I was just at a place where I just didn't know which direction I was heading with the future of my business after we had already been established for a decade or so. I was just alone in this process, that it was just me trying to figure things out, and didn't really have anybody to spitball things.
Why did you seek outside help instead of talking to peers in your industry?
I had other chiropractors that were mentors and friends, but they just kinda were in the same, I guess, holding pattern that I was. So I was just looking for somebody that just has different experiences, that was out of the same profession as me, and could kinda challenge me to look at things differently.
What was your first impression of working with Darren?
Darren's just a very calm and cool guy. He just makes you feel so relaxed when you speak with him. He's such a good listener. Just from the first time that I met him, I just... I knew we would be instant friends, and I felt so comfortable with him, being honest, 'cause that's a lot what it was.
What did you realize was holding your business back?
There was just a certain point in time where I realized that it was pretty much myself getting in my own way of that growth and development. Until I can acknowledge that and recognize that, and realize what are the action steps that I need to make in order for me to be a better leader, to be more organized, to be more disciplined, to be a better time manager for myself, to be more selfish with my time, that was another thing that I needed to learn.
How did Darren's background influence the consulting process?
Getting to know a person like Darren, who has just such a unique background and experiences, and how well-read he is, and how many different companies he's been a part of, it turned into more personal development than just professional and business development, which I think for me specifically, was what was holding me back from having the courage to take on the steps that I needed to take in order to grow and scale my business.
How did Darren handle learning about your specific business niche?
He was very quick to kinda learn what my business was. He really wanted to understand my business, even though he didn't have a lot of experience in chiropractic specifically. But he seemed to catch on and learn what are the major challenges that I was going through.
Frequently asked
Can a consultant help if they don't have experience in my specific industry?

Is business consulting worth it if I feel like I'm just coasting?
Matt Lucas found that working with Darren helped him realize he was 'getting in his own way' after ten years of being established. The consulting provided the necessary action steps for better leadership and time management that he couldn't find through peer mentors.
What is the time commitment for working with Darren Frank?
Matt Lucas shared that he spent about a couple of hours with Darren every couple of weeks, which provided a comfortable space to discuss vulnerabilities and strategic business advice.
