The interview
What surprised you about working with Coach Beth?
It became more than a coaching session; I was truly surprised at how genuine she was about my success. She came right alongside me to celebrate wins, and no accomplishment was too small. Having someone to believe in you and root you on in a leadership capacity was truly amazing and heartfelt.
What were your goals or things you wanted to shift before working with Beth?
I wanted to stay grounded in the ever-changing work I do as a Director of Nursing. Secondly, I wanted to gain insight into what was keeping me from moving forward or taking risks, and to learn how to self-regulate my own emotions and feelings while at the workplace.
What specific techniques helped you move forward?
I developed a routine pattern of mindfulness. Right before I tackle a big job, I've learned to take a deep breath and use what we talked about, PQ reps. I learned that I have the ability to do anything I set my mind to, and the key takeaway was how to set my mind to lead others and lead myself well.
How did the coaching help you identify internal barriers?
We identified the 'sage brain' versus the 'saboteurs.' I really appreciated how I can quickly now arrest those negative thoughts and look at ways to move past them, whereas before I probably let those negative thoughts linger longer than they should have.
What were the outcomes for your team and productivity?
My confidence as a leader has grown exponentially. My team now has a mechanism to articulate the 'yes, and' to solve problems collaboratively. One of the biggest outcomes was increased productivity; I saw team members who would not volunteer for things really step up and embrace their own leadership.
What stood out about Beth's specific approach to coaching?
Her authenticity and ability to individualize principles to what I needed. She always started and ended with me, not just the program or the practice. She allowed a safe place for me to say when I wasn't comfortable with an approach, and she took time to explore my biases or hesitancies.
What would have happened to your team without this coaching?
I'm confident that with all the changes that were happening among my team, without that coaching session, we would be in a much different place, and it would be negative, not positive. We would have lost peace and that cohesive work environment.
