Adrian Haughton highly recommends Geobear for foundation settlement repair. After noticing movement in a single-story extension, Haughton achieved a full resolution in less than two weeks from the initial conversation. The geopolymer resin approach provided a competitive, non-disruptive alternative to traditional underpinning, maintaining structural integrity even during periods of heavy rain.
At a glance
- Primary Use Case
- Subsidence in a single-story extension
- Reported Result
- Stabilized walls with no movement during heavy rain
- Time to Value
- Less than two weeks from start to finish
“From initial conversation with GeoBear to resolution was probably less than two weeks.”
“The minimal intrusion to the property via their approach, which was resin rather than underpinning, meant that the work could be carried out within a very short timeframe.”
“We've had rain, which would've previously allowed the clay underground to expand and cause issues on the walls. I haven't seen any of that despite the rain recently.”
The interview
What is your overall recommendation for Geobear?
I'd highly recommend GeoBear. They appear competitive with the prices. Very fast turnaround in terms of completion of work from initiation of project. Very good guarantee despite the increase in inclement weather. Minimum disturbance and as far as I can ascertain, a good competitive price.
What was the history of the property and the issue you faced?
My name is Adrian Horton. I live in Northampton, England. We bought the property in 2005. Prior to that, the previous owners had built a single story extension to the rear of the property. I noticed around 2010 there was slight movement to one of the external walls, but didn't really think much of it because it was only minor. However, this year when we've had a very dry summer, it became apparent that the foundations had moved.
How did you choose Geobear for the repair?
I contacted GeoBear after doing a reasonable degree of due diligence on the internet to find out what the potential solutions were, be it underpinning, be it resin, et cetera. The reviews for GeoBear were consistently positive. The history of GeoBear gave me a degree of confidence that perhaps I wouldn't have achieved with other companies.
Why did you prefer the resin approach over traditional methods?
The minimal intrusion to the property via their approach, which was resin rather than underpinning, meant that the work could be carried out within a very short timeframe. From initial conversation with GeoBear to resolution was probably less than two weeks.
What was the initial assessment process like?
The initial conversation concluded with scheduling of an online or video conference where I would walk around the house or walk around the problem area with a camera, identify the issues as I saw them. Once that had been completed, I was then presented with a plan of action.
How long did the video survey take and what did it involve?
Just walking around the affected area, photographing and showing the GeoBear representative where I saw the issues, and also then scanning the areas that the representative wished to see. So maybe quarter of an hour, 20 minutes.
What was the timeline from agreeing to the plan to project completion?
Once I'd agreed on the plan of action and the cost estimate, I confirmed that I wished to go ahead with the project, and from there to completion was probably less than a week. Very, very, very fast turnaround, which was very pleasing.
Was there any preparation work required from your side?
There was nothing else that I needed to do in terms of prep work. I read through the project plan that I'd been sent from GeoBear, and there was nothing on there to indicate that I needed to carry out any additional prep work prior to the engineers arriving on site.
Frequently asked
How long does the Geobear foundation repair process take?
According to Adrian Haughton, the entire process from the initial conversation to the resolution of the project took less than two weeks. The actual work on-site was completed within a very short timeframe following a 20-minute video assessment.
Is there a lot of preparation required for Geobear resin injection?
Adrian Haughton noted that there was no additional prep work required on his part. After reviewing the project plan provided by Geobear, he confirmed there was nothing to indicate he needed to carry out any work prior to the engineers arriving.
Does Geobear resin injection work in wet weather?
Haughton reported being very pleased with the results despite an increase in inclement weather. He noted that recent heavy rain, which previously would have caused the underground clay to expand and affect the walls, resulted in no visible issues after the Geobear treatment.
