The interview
What was your experience with the diagnostic and procedural timeline?
I was impressed by how smooth it went. I mean, I was able to get an MRI really quickly and ordered it, got it done, got me in really quickly to do the procedure, and the procedure was way less uncomfortable than I thought it was gonna be, especially this most recent one that I had.
How would you describe the pain level of the back injections?
With back injections, you think back and you think, 'My gosh, I'm not gonna be excited about that one.' But it was, I would say, quick, painless, or fairly painless, and the staff is really good about working with you as far as if you wanna do laser therapy after, if you wanna do shockwave therapy after.
What led you to seek treatment for your back?
I just started getting more sore after doing C-sections, after doing deliveries. My back started hurting more and bothering me for longer periods of time. I've actually had surgery from Dr. Demers on my knee a few years ago, and had PRP and injections after, and did really well. And so I was very interested in helping my back with the same minimally invasive treatments.
How was the communication and preparation for your procedure?
They communicated really well and said, 'Okay, this is what you have. This is what we gotta do. Get here early. Let's get your blood, and let's get things ready for you so you don't have to spend a lot of time sitting around in the office.'
What specific improvements have you noticed in your daily life and activities?
One of the big things that I've noticed is it's spring, I've started playing softball again, and I'm still in physical therapy with my back, but I've noticed I am much less sore after I'm playing softball. I played a doubleheader the other day and a little bit sore after, but not like I used to be. Even this soon after the injections, I've noticed that my discomfort is much less, that it goes away quicker, that it's easier to manage and bothersome in my life.
Why would you recommend Joint Vitality Institute over a typical orthopedic surgeon?
I would recommend Joint Vitality Institute because doctor's been in surgery for years. Her approach is to try to avoid surgery. She's not a typical orthopedic surgeon that's gonna say, 'Well, you need surgery,' or, 'You don't need surgery, but you need physical therapy and I can't help you anymore.' She has the approach that, 'Hey, I can help you and get you through without surgery.'
What is the atmosphere like at the office?
Walking into their office, you automatically feel relaxed. You feel like it's a different type of practice, and a practice that's geared towards patients. It's not geared towards getting people seen and getting them out of there. That relaxation makes you relax, be able to talk to the physician, be able to talk to the staff, and work with the staff.
