The interview

What was your experience working one-on-one with Elia?

We've had some one-on-ones with Elia. Just to have him there where I can let it all out and just feel comfortable, and how he holds such a space, and there's no judgment. It's just purely support. He's purely there for you, to be with you in the experience, to witness you. Just that presence is so different from what I'm used to, and that in itself is hugely impactful.

What led you to seek out Transformative Listening?

What led me to Transformative Listening was really just a pathway to connect with others, and ultimately work through a lot of my childhood stuff that's been coming up that I've been discovering and working to transform. So yeah, that's the main thing, is the connection and, and then the transformation, healing basically all the stuff within me that I've discovered.

How does this approach differ from how we are usually taught to handle emotions?

What's different about Transformative Listening is actually opposite of what we're taught to do in society. We're taught to, when you feel emotions, stuff it away, first off. Make sure you don't show anyone. This is, 'Hey, you're sad. You're angry. You're upset in some way. That's perfect. There is nothing wrong with you.' Instead of making things good and bad, it's, 'No, this is all good. It's all you. It's all tells a story.'

How has Elia guided you through the healing process?

Elia's helped to guide me through first just understanding everything that I've been experiencing is normal, even though they feel like crap, they're challenging, it's really tough to handle the emotions and the old memories. And just knowing, 'Hey, it's okay. There's nothing wrong with you.' Having that comfort, that peace of mind, first of all, that's a huge thing in itself. And then just guiding me through those emotions, through the process of it all, how to handle them, and giving that loving attention.

How has this program impacted your personal relationships?

Doing this program, the way I feel about listening to someone else and supporting someone else is different. It's helped me in my relationship a lot. Often in a disagreement in a relationship or a misunderstanding, there's this blame game, and there's this wanting to fix things. That always leads to some kind of argument, and the thing is, this cuts all that out. This teaches you to be present, because that's ultimately what's needed.

Who would you recommend Transformative Listening to?

Transformative Listening is really for everybody. It'll be especially impactful if someone who is maybe isolated or you don't have people to really talk to about the things you're going through. This is for anyone who wants to seek their inner truth, to really navigate the inner stuff that people don't wanna talk about, someone who wants to finally face the things that they feel inside of them and let them go, heal them.

Can this program help with relationship arguments?

According to Jason Smith, it 'cuts all that out' by teaching partners to be present and fully accepted rather than trying to fix each other or engage in blame.
