The interview

What is your role and what does the Métis Nation of Ontario do?

I'm a manager in the Education and Training Branch with the Métis Nation of Ontario. We're a Canadian-based political organization that represents Métis people, one of the three constitutionally recognized Aboriginal peoples in Canada. Our role is to serve citizens of the MNO with direct programs and services and also to advocate for more inclusive policies in government.

What challenge led you to seek out Cobblestone Consulting?

We were tasked with designing some learning modules for cultural competency training for health care workers in Ontario. We had some in-house support with an individual who then went on maternity leave, so we were left without internal expertise on how to proceed with building out the modules.

How did you find and select Cobblestone Consulting?

We went through a pretty fast process. We connected with our LMS platform, Talent LMS, and asked them directly for a recommendation on whether they typically worked with individual firms to build out these modules. They referred us to Cobblestone. Early on, it was clear they were professional, kind, and interested in our project and our budget.

How would you describe Cobblestone's project management and process?

Cobblestone really stands apart. They're very well organized and their process was very clear from the outset. It was adaptable to our needs, but also still very structured so that they know how to manage this space. Everybody knows their role and how to stay within that role. We had very regular check-ins and they were very responsive to requests for change.

What was the final outcome of the project?

The project is nearing completion and it is coming on time and on budget. They look great and they fit our branding. We're just coming to the conclusion of having five modules that go from stem to stern of what we were looking for in terms of our output. I couldn't be happier.

What was the most enlightening part of working with them?

The experience was eye-opening in that it demonstrated the way that this should be done. They have a really solid model of how they go from text and idea to discovery, all the way to conclusion. They've given me a really clear indication of how to do this work in the most efficient and timely manner.

Frequently asked

Can Cobblestone Consulting work within strict budget constraints?

Yes, Simon Sutherland emphasized that budget was a critical factor for their organization and Cobblestone stayed within that budget throughout the entire project. He described them as a professional and caring outfit that respected their financial parameters from the initial discovery phase.

What happens if a project needs frequent changes during storyboarding?

According to Sutherland, the Cobblestone team was very responsive to requests for change throughout the storyboarding and construction phases. He highlighted their regular check-ins and adaptability as key strengths of their structured process.
