The interview

Why was it important for you to be part of the FMPhA state chapter rollout?

It's important to me to be a part of this rollout because I really just want to show other pharmacists that this is completely possible. I had a lot of gut feelings that what we were doing—especially in the community setting—just wasn't resonating well with patients or the outcomes we were seeing. I want people to understand there is so much more we can be doing to help clients feel well and utilize our licenses with passion.

How did you first discover Functional Medicine Pharmacists Alliance?

I unofficially met Lauren through Instagram. I had Googled 'functional medicine pharmacists' and FMPhA came up. I pretty much read Lauren's website and resonated with everything she had written on there. I found out she had an Instagram and I just 'slid into her DMs' to tell her everything FMPhA is promoting sounds like something I'm interested in doing.

Did you have any hesitations before joining the bootcamp?

I would say if I had any hesitations about doing the bootcamp, it was the fact that it was teaching you how to own your own business. And so that part was a little bit frightening for me before I ended up kinda pulling the trigger on the bootcamp.

What were your biggest takeaways from the bootcamp experience?

One of my biggest takeaways was having a community and a support system behind me. But also just the direct blueprint of actually starting a functional medicine-focused practice. There was no guessing, no hee-hawing around. I had direct links, websites—the resources to actually get it done. That was something I really valued.

What additional benefits come with the program membership?

With purchasing the bootcamp, you kinda' got this lifetime membership with FMPhA, which is invaluable in itself. You get this huge community of other pharmacists and connections. We also got discounts through IFM because the next step for a lot of people is 'where can I get more functional medicine training?'

How has your business progressed since completing the bootcamp?

Within six months of doing the bootcamp, I was already here and able to replace my full-time salary as a pharmacist and to go full-time in my own business. It really blossomed and turned into so much more. I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I will be able to progress this quickly.

What would you say to other pharmacists considering this path?

It is super important to be a founding member of this bootcamp because there is a drastic shift and a movement happening in healthcare. If you want to be on this ship and not get left behind, today is the day to do it—now. I just see this as an amazing opportunity and you don't want to let it pass you by.
