The interview
Would you recommend Geobear to others?
Yeah, I highly recommend Geobear and indeed have recommended Geobear to neighbours who suffer from a similar problem because they come across as a large and competent organization who will come and do exactly what they'll say they do with no mess, no rubbish, no excuses. They just come and just sort the problem and that's what they've done for us.
What was the situation with your property before contacting Geobear?
Before dealing with Geobear we had an ongoing problem of subsidence in our house which is on a hill. This went on for the best part of almost 20 years. Occasionally insurers would send someone to measure to monitor cracks but they never actually do anything and the cracks were getting so bad we thought we had to take some sort of action.
What solutions were you considering for the subsidence?
We were after a solution that would basically halt the problem of our house continuing to fall downhill. We considered the two biggest solutions: underpinning—a complex construction process involving a lot of hassle, possibly moving out, and a lot of money—or resin technology to stabilize the building from in front.
Why did you choose Geobear over other companies?
The reason we went with Geobear was primarily their experience over decades; it wasn't a new company. They possessed a certain kind of accreditation where you could get a certificate of structural stability. We wanted something concrete on the certification side and the insurance assistance of knowing we could call them back if something needed redoing.
How did the preparation and surveying process go?
It took a couple of weeks to set up and arrange things with the team. The people came and surveyed the drain a few days before, and then a team came the day before to expose and uncover the utilities and pipes into the building to prepare the work.
How long did the actual work take to complete?
I was markedly surprised how quick it was. This big team of six, seven, maybe eight people arrived at about eight in the morning and it was all done by late afternoon, by four p.m. The whole thing was done basically within a day.
Frequently asked
Is resin injection better than traditional underpinning for subsidence?
Daniel Morgan considered underpinning but found it to be a complex construction process involving significant hassle and the potential need to move out. He chose Geobear's resin technology because it stabilized the building from the front without the disruption of major excavation.
Does Geobear provide a guarantee for foundation work?
Yes, Daniel Morgan highlighted that Geobear provides a certificate of structural stability and insurance backing. This ensures the work is valid through an industry body even if the company itself were to face issues.
How long does the Geobear injection process take?
While the setup and surveying took a couple of weeks to arrange, the actual stabilization work was completed in a single day. Daniel noted the team arrived at 8 a.m. and finished by 4 p.m.
