The interview

Can you introduce yourself and tell us why you sought support for Logan?

My name is Becky Schatz, and we're located in Alexandria, Virginia. We knew that we needed some support for our son, Logan. We had heard about Good Beginnings from a few moms in the area.

What has your experience been like with the therapists at Good Beginnings?

It has been, like, honestly, a lifesaver for us because we've had a lot of great consistency for Logan. Every therapist we've had has been super warm and super knowledgeable. They really understand him and took the time to get to know him, not just as a patient, but also as a kid.

What is unique about their approach to therapy?

I loved the idea of him working with therapists who didn't just see his challenges; they leaned into his strengths, they leaned into his hobbies. That is sort of how they approach therapy, and I think that's really unique and special.

How is the communication and administrative side of the practice?

A lot of the times you have a billing department where you're going to email them and never hear back, or it's an automated thing. Here, you literally hear back all the time. They'll answer questions. I just love how collaborative it's been.

What specific improvements have you seen in Logan?

Logan is much happier. He just knows his own emotions much better now. He celebrates his wins much more proudly. His moments of challenges are not as challenging for us. He's able to understand his body a little bit more and understand emotional regulation.

Why would you recommend Good Beginnings to other parents?

I would recommend Good Beginnings because the therapists really want to provide individualized care and treatment plans. They go above and beyond when it comes to collaboration with parents, with other therapists, and potentially even with teachers. Taking that first step is the thing that opens up a new chapter for them.
