The interview

Who are you and why did you hire RSH Engineering?

Hi. My name is Kyle Kalra, and this is my wife, Preeti Kalra. And we just bought a new home, and we brought Matthew Joseph, RSH Engineering, to help us with the new build. We wanted to protect our investment, and we hired RSH Engineering for that. At this point, it's beyond an investment; it's the safety concerns for a home where we plan to retire.

What kind of reputation does Mathew Joseph have in the community?

He gives you someone with an excellent reputation in the community. People will be like, oh, I know who he is. I first heard about RSH engineering through word-of-mouth from one of my colleagues, and he literally told me, 'pay the man what he had.' He said this guy will do a very, very thorough job.

How does an engineer's inspection differ from a standard home inspection?

The fact that he's an engineer by trade, he knows things as a professional engineer that other inspectors don't know. He catches things and understands how things are supposed to be manufactured. His reports are extremely detailed and they come with an engineering stamp, so people take it seriously.

What specific benefits did you see during the home purchase process?

The issues that we have found and then we worked through with the builders to get it fixed, honestly, was big big issue which should have cost so much money down the lane for us. Matthew's coaching has continued to support me by letting me know how the entire process works and how to deal with getting the home that you want.

Which service level did you choose and was it worth the cost?

We hired him for throughout the entire inspection process, which is his platinum package. And I'm telling everybody that it is a 110% worth it no matter how expensive it looks up front.

What is your advice for someone building a new home?

If you're building a new home, I suggest you get him from the very beginning where they're putting the foundation because he'll teach you this is how the foundation is supposed to be laid. This is where things are being skipped these days. With Matthew, you get the knowledge and you know in and out about your house.

Frequently asked

Is it worth paying more for a professional engineer than a standard home inspector?

Kyle Kalra initially questioned the higher cost but concluded that you get exactly what you pay for. He noted that as a professional engineer, Mathew Joseph catches things other inspectors miss because he understands how homes are manufactured and provides a stamped report that builders take seriously.

How does RSH Engineering help when builders refuse to fix inspection items?

Preethie Kalra explained that builders often try to 'chew you off' when presented with reports, but Mathew Joseph provides coaching on exactly what to say and how to approach them to ensure the work actually gets done.

When is the best time to hire a structural engineer for a new build?

Kyle Kalra suggests hiring RSH Engineering from the very beginning, specifically when the foundation is being laid, to ensure no steps are skipped, rather than waiting for a final inspection.

Speaker 0: Hi. My name is Kyle Kalra, and this is my wife, Preeti Kalra. And we just bought a new home, and we brought Matthew Joseph, RSH Engineering, to help us with the new build. Speaker 1: We wanted to protect our investment, and we hired RSH Engineering for that. And at this point, it's beyond an investment. First, the safety concerns. Obviously, this is a home that we are thinking for futures to come until we retire and have spent on lifelong savings on it. Speaker 0: We highly recommend RSH Engineering. He will provide you the knowledge of your home. He will give you exactly what needs to be fixed in a very detailed report. He gives you someone with an excellent reputation in the community. People will be like, oh, I know who he is. At first, I thought why should we pay more for an engineer? Really, I would tell people that you get exactly what you pay for. When I first I heard about RSH engineering through word-of-mouth from one of my colleagues, and he literally told me, pay the man what he had. That is literally what he told me. And I thought that was so interesting because he said this guy, he will do a very, very thorough job. He will catch things that everyone won't catch. And the fact that he's an engineer by trade, he knows things as a professional engineer that other inspectors don't know. Speaker 1: Harry Matthew has benefited my home purchase by almost everything. Like, the issues that we have found and then we worked through with the builders to get it fixed, honestly, was big big issue which should have cost so much money down the lane for us. Speaker 0: Matthew's coaching has continued to support me by letting me know how the entire process works and how to deal with getting the home that you want. We hired him for throughout the entire inspection process, which is his platinum package. And I'm telling everybody that it is a 110% worth it no matter how expensive it looks up front. Speaker 1: If you're sitting on the fence, my recommendation is to go for this inspection. I can tell you based on what we have experienced especially as a first time home buyer, what Matthew has guided us, like how to approach the builders because trust me, when you actually go to the builders with a report, they are going to just chew you off and they're not really gonna do anything. But Matthew knows exactly what to say, how to say, and what would make the builders work. Speaker 0: Having an engineer brings knowledge and some of who's gonna catch things that won't be caught by other inspectors who are not engineers. I can a 110% say that. He catches things. He understands how things are supposed to be manufactured. Speaker 1: Inspection, but with Matthew, you get the knowledge, you get how to handle situations, you know in and out about your house. Speaker 0: Having someone with an engineering background has benefited our home purchase in multiple different ways. One way is the coaching. With his engineering background, he's able to teach us exactly how a new home is built and exactly how the home should be built. I know a lot of people will use him for the final inspection, but if you're building a new home, I suggest you get him from the very beginning where they're putting the foundation because he'll teach you this is how the foundation is supposed to be laid. This is where things are being skipped these days. The other way is his reports are extremely detailed and the thing with his reports, it comes with an engineering stamp. People take it seriously. Speaker 1: RSH is the best in the world for its inspection, knowledge, and finding all the defects in your building. Yep. There is nobody else who is as detailed as him.
