The interview

Who are you and where do you live?

I'm Mike Conrad. We live in Seven Hills, Ohio. I'm an IT director with Sherwin-Williams. And I'm Julie Conrad, and I work as a billing and insurance coordinator at a dental office.

What was the situation with your kitchen before the renovation?

We bought our house almost 12 years ago, and before we moved in we painted the kitchen and did a little bit to keep it functional but we knew eventually that we would want to renovate it. It took us almost 12, 13 years. The kitchen was always like... we knew it was going to be the big one. We knew it was going to be the final major project for us.

How did you find Medina Exteriors & Remodeling?

We were able to find Medina Exteriors through a friend who had used them for multiple projects. It made it really easy for us to want to work with them just because we had a personal connection to their work and we had seen it in their house.

What was the benefit of their project management style?

The fact that they did all of the subcontracting for us and they actually established all their connections with their partners, and they did all the scheduling and the organizing really helped. If we had to go and do our own scheduling of planning and electrician, I think that would have made a lot more work on us and we just wanted the hands-off experience where they came in and ran it.

How long did the process take from ideation to completion?

The overall turnaround time was great. I think we met with them in probably January and February, and then they started work really a few months later. So we didn't have to wait long to kind of go from the ideation process to seeing it all completed.

How was the communication during the project?

I was super impressed with especially the communication. That was another thing during our showroom visit that Mariah walked us through. It was the app that they use, Builder Trend, and how all of our messaging can go back and forth there. Any concern that we had was answered very quickly. Someone would be out here either fixing it or talking us through it.

How has the new kitchen changed your daily life?

Now that we have a new kitchen, we have new cooking experiences and hosting experiences. We host a lot, we entertain a lot. It's even better now with the new setup. There's a lot more space and then it's easier for us to cook together if we want to. The old kitchen was kind of dingy and we didn't get a lot of natural light and we put a new window in, and just made it a lot brighter.

Frequently asked

Is it difficult to manage subcontractors during a kitchen remodel?

According to Mike, Medina Exteriors handled all subcontracting, including scheduling and organizing electricians and partners. This provided a 'hands-off experience' where a dedicated project manager ran the entire process, removing the burden from the homeowners.

How can I stay updated on my home remodeling project progress?

Julie was impressed by the BuilderTrend app used by Medina Exteriors. The app allowed all messaging and project updates to go back and forth in one centralized location, which was introduced during their initial showroom visit with Mariah.

Is a high-end kitchen remodel worth the investment?

Mike Conrad believes it is 'totally worth it,' stating that 'you get what you pay for.' He emphasizes that Medina Exteriors guarantees the final result will match exactly what they promised during the planning phase.
