The interview

What was your life like before working with Heather Aardema?

Before working with Heather, I was completely bogged down by limiting beliefs, thoughts that definitely were not serving me, physical clutter, mental clutter, and emotional clutter.

What is it like to interact with Heather personally?

Heather somehow manages to portray this energy of kindness and total empathy and zero judgment. She immediately feels like a safe space, someone to even just listen to. She has integrity and she has heart, and you can tell that she cares for every single person who is struggling.

Did you have any hesitations about joining the School of Living Lighter?

I feel like what might have kept me from working with Heather was just that old belief that I've tried so many things and nothing worked, and why would this be any different? It's like magic; she reframes where you are, what you're thinking, and what you're making it mean.

How has the program changed your perspective during daily challenges?

Every single interaction I have with her, whether it's a one-on-one or listening to her modules, she just gives me this light bulb that's just like, 'Oh my gosh, I don't have to look at it this way.' She just turns it all on its head and immediately it feels lighter and possible.

What has been the most significant change after a year in the community?

I've been in this community about a year, and I would say the lightest thing by far is my thoughts and then my feelings about them. I hear her voice in my head every time I think, 'Oh, my gosh, I'm never gonna get this right,' and it's so encouraging and uplifting that we keep going.

How has this transformation impacted your relationships with others?

It definitely helps me to support others more fully. I can be more fully present because I realize what's really important. It helps me to be more present with my family, with the people I serve, and just honestly, more whole when I'm with myself.

What advice would you give to someone considering this investment?

I would say you are worth the investment. If not now, when? If you've been struggling for weeks or months or years or decades, reach out because that is the first step towards change and growth and your lighter, more joyful life.

Frequently asked

Will School of Living Lighter work if other programs have failed?

Alyssa Utecht initially worried that because she had tried many things that didn't work, this would be no different. However, she found Heather's ability to reframe thoughts felt 'like magic,' turning her perspective on its head to make progress feel possible.

What is the community support like at School of Living Lighter?

Alyssa describes the community as a very safe and supportive space where members feel comfortable asking for help. Even if Heather isn't the one responding, other members frequently step in with ideas and suggestions.

How does this program help with daily overwhelm?

Alyssa notes that the program helps her stay present with the people she serves and her family. She now prioritizes what is truly important, accepting that tasks like a messy kitchen can wait while she focuses on being 'more whole' with herself.
