The interview

Who are you and what book did you write?

My name is Jennifer K. Hill, and I wrote the book The Pleiadian Princess, which is a children's book, and it was my first time publishing a children's book.

What was the inspiration and writing process for your book?

I wrote the book actually walking the streets of Lisbon, and it came through me, and it was channeled, so it took me literally less than two minutes to write the book. I wasn't planning to do anything with it. I knew nothing about writing or publishing children's books.

How did the book evolve before you decided to publish it?

A friend of mine heard me read it on a world poetry thing. Before the book even got turned into a children's book, it became a short film. A friend of mine who's a filmmaker, who worked with Quentin Tarantino, turned it into a short film as a thank-you gift.

What were your concerns before working with Asterah?

I had the animation, I had the manuscript written, and it just felt too overwhelming. It felt so scary and overwhelming to go, 'How do I even publish this book?'

What was your experience working with Avery and the team?

I reconnected with Avery, and she made it so easy. She laid the pages out and the art beautifully. From the minute I got her the art and the manuscript, it was done in a week. She was above being on time, impeccable in her work, and so responsive. The team was great and everything came in ahead of schedule.

How did it feel to see the finished product?

I was jumping for joy. I was literally, like, lit up like a firecracker. To get to hold this book and to get to see that children get to read it and parents love it. It was so beautiful—just texturally, the way it felt, the glossy cover.

What kind of feedback have you received since publishing?

I'd been sharing from memorization parts of the book and getting standing ovations around the world. But the greatest compliment was when a six-year-old daughter of a friend said, 'I want to be the Pleiadian Princess for Halloween.'

Full transcript

I literally have told 30 people in the last two [laughs] weeks to go publish their books with Xterra. They were so easy and wonderful to work with. I was like, "It's a no-brainer." I've referred Xterra more people than I can count. My name is Jennifer K. Hill, and I wrote the book The Pleiadian Princess, which is a children's book, and it was my first time publishing a children's book. It was a very unique experience. I wrote the book actually walking the streets of Lisbon, and it came through me, and it was channeled, so it took me literally less than two minutes to write the book. And I wasn't planning to do anything with it. I knew nothing [laughs] about writing or publishing children's books, and a friend of mine heard me read it on a world poetry thing that I was invited to speak and share on. So before the book even got turned into a children's book, it became a short film. A friend of mine who's a filmmaker, who worked with Quentin Tarantino, turned it into a short film, first as a thank-you gift for all the connections I gave her. And then again, still, I had the animation, I had the manuscript written, and it just felt too overwhelming. It felt so scary and overwhelming to go, "How do I even publish this book?" And then I reconnected with Avery, and she made it so easy. It was amazing. She laid the pages out and the art beautifully. I mean, I cannot recommend her enough. That's why I said, "Please pick me. I want to do a testimonial so everybody who has a children's book or another book can get it published." Because from start to finish, from the minute I got her the art and the manuscript, it was done in a week. She did everything I needed. Laid it out. It was beautifully done. She was above being on time, impeccable in her work, and so responsive. Xterra was amazing. I mean, the team was great. They were responsive. Any questions I had were quickly answered, and everything came in ahead of schedule. Gosh, I was jumping for joy. I was literally, like, lit up like a firecracker. To get to hold this book and to get to see that, oh my gosh, children get to read it and parents love it. I had been sharing it as part of a keynote. I do a lot of keynote speaking around the world, and I'd been r- like, sharing from memorization parts of the book and getting standing ovations around the world just for the book. But to see, like, the actual book, that here was this thing that just kind of came from nothing into the world. And Avery, it was so beautiful. I mean, just texturally, the way it felt, the glossy cover. And then, of course, getting the greatest compliment I could have gotten when the book was published of a six-year-old, a friend of mine's daughter, said, "I want to be the Pleiadian Princess for Halloween." And I'm like, "Ah, so happy." [laughs] If you're thinking about publishing a book, if you want somebody who can do it easily and effortlessly, call Xterra. I cannot recommend them enough. It was a joy and pleasure to work with them.
