The interview
Before Speakeasy, what kind of felt missing in your business or other masterminds?
When I moved to Playa Del Carmen in 2021, I always had a yearning for a mastermind or a group that I can talk business with and a group that's really into growth. Because I have an online business, I always sought out the top marketing strategies, what's new in the market, and what's going on with AI. It was challenging to find those conversations because it's a very diverse city. Before Speakeasy, I would have to attend conferences all the time and be very active in Facebook groups.
Was there anything you were unsure or uneasy about before joining?
The person who brought Speakeasy to me is a person I really trust, Kate Buck Jr., who is an icon in the social media world. When she said this group contains some of the smartest minds in digital marketing and online business, I was at ease. The more time I spend with the community, the more motivated I am to give back. These people are also very humble and generous with their knowledge, so it felt like home pretty fast.
What surprised you the most about being a member of Speakeasy Mastermind?
I always came into masterminds with a certain ROI calculator in my head. When I joined Speakeasy, I just turned off that ROI calculator because people were just so nice and they give a lot. It motivated me to be more open to other people's learning and life experience. I like that there are people more mature than me in terms of age and business experience; I became more of a sponge and felt I had nothing to prove.
Was there a meaningful shift in your business or how you operate that was a win for you?
The focus is really on digital marketing. I am a member of other masterminds that have very diverse businesses, but here, I started to learn and welcome different ideologies and ways to market my business and my clients' businesses. I no longer operate in a vacuum. I used to have a lot of beliefs that only organic social content would make a business grow, but being around these smart people opened my eyes to the nuances of what really works.
If another founder asked if Speakeasy is worth it, what would you tell them?
Honestly, Speakeasy is definitely worth it. It's worth it two or three times over the membership fee. Because Speakeasy has a local flavor, you have access to some of the smartest minds in online business in your city. Even if you don't get direct clients, having access to people who will critique your sales page or give honest opinions on leadership problems with no ulterior motive is definitely worth it.
