The interview

Who are you and what is your current role?

My name is Favour Iyoha. I'm based in Johannesburg, South Africa, and I support an executive who is a partner in a marketing and advertising company.

What was your professional background before joining Atlas Assistants?

Before Atlas, I was working as a virtual assistant as well as an administrative assistant. I'm also spending a lot of my time upscaling, just to grow in my field.

How did Atlas Assistants change your perspective on the assistant role?

Getting into Atlas actually made me realize that there was more to this, if I'm being honest. It broadened my mind and made me realize that there's actually more to just being an assistant. The core values blew me away because usually most companies don't really invest in making you the type of person that you want to be.

What was the training process like at Atlas?

We had a training that was for about a week, an EA training, just to get you ready and set you before you take on the role as an EA or assigned a client. It was live so we could ask questions, it was really amazing. We received a certification upon completion.

Can you give an example of a specific skill you refined during training?

Getting into detail with the most simple thing as calendar scheduling—like, how can you really excel at every single detail? It was another way to add to your skill and just improve you as a person.

How has your daily work evolved since becoming an Atlas Assistant?

I was being involved more in the planning meetings. Usually would have like just scheduling, just keeping track of the inboxes, making sure that things are tidied up, routine-based processes. But when I started being included in our planning meetings, I would have stand-up calls every week to plan for future goals, plan ahead.

What is the ultimate value of the EA role according to your experience?

You can excel at becoming that perfect partner to your EA where you are definitely behind the scenes but your role carries so much importance. You gain more confidence. You actually have purpose to your career path and you become invaluable.

Frequently asked

Is Atlas Assistants just another virtual assistant agency?
