The interview
What is your impression of the partnership between Trina and Gretchen?
They are just this perfect yin and yang. The name of the brand couldn't be better; it's exactly a left brain/right brain. They work so well together and give you the balance of everything. It's not as if you're working with one individual and you feel like you need another pair of eyes on it. You have it right there. It's an all-inclusive experience.
Who are you and what do you do?
Hi, I'm Debra Atkinson. I'm the founder of Flipping 50, and I am living right now in Phoenix, Arizona. I am actually in marketing. I help my audience with their marketing, but sometimes when you're in the picture, you can't see yourself.
What was the value of the strategy process for you?
The value was super clear, but amplified by having the two of them. They take their time to go through the strategy, things that I almost thought, 'Well, I don't need that.' And listening to them, and allowing them to pull out of me things that I wouldn't have gotten to myself was so valuable.
Why did you decide it was time for a rebrand after 10 years?
I had had this brand going on for 10 years, but it was ready for a facelift. And we were also going deep into the meta of our audience, and actually serving practitioners, health coaches and trainers who serve my audience. I really had to pull back and make sure, 'Am I really speaking to that audience?' So it was super helpful to have somebody else's eyes and lens looking at the words and the images and the flow.
What was the most significant shift in your brand identity?
The most significant shift in my brand was actually really a split. So it was very distinct between the brand to consumer and the brand to practitioners. But the other piece that really came into play was, we amplified colors that really spoke to me. I love my website. I couldn't say that before.
How has your business changed since the rebrand?
Since the rebrand, my business has changed a little bit in, I think the practitioners who come to the pages not only see the brand differently, they see themselves in the brand differently. They see that I'm speaking to them in a way that elevates them already while they're there, which is exactly how I need them to feel.
What have the tangible results been since working with Left Right Labs?
Since Left Right Labs has rebranded my business in both sites, sales have exploded, particularly with the business-to-business side of things. And more importantly than that—and probably more foundationalist—I'm not embarrassed to send people to that site. I went from not embarrassed, but all the way to really proud of that site, and proud of who it speaks to and how it defines the ideal customer.
Frequently asked
Is the strategy phase necessary if I already know my brand?
Debra Atkinson initially thought she might not need the deep strategy work, but she found that Trina and Gretchen were able to pull insights out of her that she wouldn't have reached on her own, providing a valuable 'different lens' on her business.
Can Left Right Labs help with both B2C and B2B audiences?
Yes. Debra Atkinson noted the most significant shift was a distinct split between her brand-to-consumer and brand-to-practitioner identities, ensuring both audiences felt elevated and understood.
What is it like working with the founders of Left Right Labs?
Debra describes Trina and Gretchen as a 'perfect yin and yang' representing a left brain/right brain balance. She felt it was an all-inclusive experience where she didn't need another pair of eyes because the balance was built into their partnership.
