Debra Atkinson, founder of Flipping 50, used Share One to transition from static Facebook screenshots to professional video testimonials. By leveraging Share One's third-party interviewers, Atkinson captured authentic stories that resonate with her menopause fitness community, reporting that the third-party approach elicited better, more detailed answers than her own internal attempts.

There is nothing like the video testimonial... They want to hear that sentence say, 'she's just like me.'
The value in a third party doing it probably got better answers than I would have gotten directly interviewing somebody myself.
They also come back to the herd, and they say, 'this was so easy. If you haven't done this, yet be sure that you go and do it.'

The interview

How have your customers reacted to the Share One testimonial process?

We have a little WhatsApp group from a very recent retreat we did. And we've got three out of the seven women who have already done their testimonial, but they also come back to the herd, and they say, 'this was so easy. If you haven't done this, yet be sure that you go and do it.' And I think they feel a little bit like a celebrity and that their opinion matters. So it's not just a task you're asking them to do. They actually end up benefiting and realizing I'm helping to encourage another woman to do this, too.

What was your previous approach to gathering social proof?

I thought I do fitness marketing, I should be able to do this myself. And always in the back of my mind, I thought, I'm going to go and do that. I can interview my people and I know what questions to ask them, but I never did. I never got to it. There was always something more important, more urgent to get done. We would snap little screenshots of Facebook comments. So at least they were legitimate. It wasn't just me putting a quote on the website and people could tell they were from real people, but there is nothing like the video testimonial.

Why is video specifically important for your audience at Flipping 50?

I know that about my clients, whether it's health professionals and fitness pros or it's women in any stage of menopause. They want to see themselves. They want to hear that sentence say, 'she's just like me, or if it works for her, it'll work for me.' And nothing does that like video. So I needed to get them done. And I needed to get real with myself that I was not going to get it done.

What was the most surprising benefit of using Share One?

The pleasant surprise was that the value in a third party doing it probably got better answers than I would have gotten directly interviewing somebody myself.

How are you currently using these video testimonials in your marketing?

So we are doing a launch right now. So I will use them in the email sequence and I'll use them in the webinars that we're using to attract and tell them about the new product or service. Then we have the video testimonials of people who've gone through the program. So we use them specifically every step of the way. But we've also got some of these testimonials that are evergreen, that are more a testimonial to working with me or to working with our company.

What makes Share One different from other options?

I think Share One stands out in a couple of different ways. So they've got a system for sure, but you know, every time I talk to Dan, he is like a bank of ideas. And I walk away thinking I could be doing that!

Frequently asked

Can I just interview my own customers for video testimonials?

Debra Atkinson initially believed she should do it herself since she knew the right questions, but she found she never actually prioritized it. She discovered that Share One as a third party actually elicited better, more candid answers than she would have gotten directly.

How do customers feel about being asked for a video testimonial?

Atkinson noted that her clients felt like 'celebrities' and that their opinions truly mattered. Instead of it being a chore, they felt they were benefiting by helping to encourage other women in the community to take action.

Are video testimonials better than text quotes or screenshots?

According to Debra Atkinson, while Facebook screenshots are legitimate, 'there is nothing like the video testimonial.' She found that her clients need to see and hear someone just like them to believe a program will work for them.
